Challenge for free

A challenge costs the challenger nothing. If the word is good it simply stays on the board and play carries on; if it is bad the tiles come off and its player loses the turn as normal. This is the British convention, and it takes bluffing out of the game — there is no longer any profit in laying a word you know is invalid, because someone will always look it up.
